Steve, I don't understand how these things work, but I was very disappointed to read that "PARTING SHOT" did not receive a nomination for a Grammy this year. Months ago, I had read about the category consolidations, and the elimination of many important instrumental music categories, Jazz and otherwise, but now I see how this has affected a great recording like yours. I know that artists do not make albums to win awards, but it would certainly be nice to have such brilliant work recognized by your own industry. To me, there is no question that your album was one of the best of 2011. Thank you for making such a unique album! - Josh

Steve, just thinking about those nights at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach listening to Wes Montgomery, Mose Allison, and others back in the 1960s. I was proud to be your friend then, and I'm happy for you now. Congrats on your wonderful life.

Thank you so much for all of your wonderful music! I have recently bought "THE SUITCASE" through iTunes. It is an amazing recording. I read your comments on this release in your Discography, and they are spot on. Anthony and Dennis are amazing. Also, thanks for producing the Bill Connors release "STEP IT." I look forward to hearing your newer releases.

Steve: Maybe the best thing for the Yankees would have been if Granderson doesn't make that catch in the 1st inning, Burnett is removed by Girardi, and then, A.J. gets the blame for everything! How about that? Oh well, by the way, "PARTING SHOT" is without question one of the best recordings of the year!!! Congratulations!

The only regret I have about Steve Khan's music is that there isn't more of it on video. I have to imagine him playing with his band...Leading them through the songs like Carlos Santana led his orchestra...You always know his guitar is in the forefront with his supporting cast setting him up for his next solo as he leads them in the next direction. I picture it over and over again in my mind, especially "THE BLUE MAN" songs where he gives way to the saxophone, and then takes the lead back again. It all sends me into a different world profoundly. I may just take some of his music with me to my grave. Is that so wrong?

Hello Steve, I'd like to make my compliments to your new CD "PARTING SHOT." I've been following your music since high school, for almost 30 years now. But in my opinion, this is your best record. It's a perfect balance between jazz, blues and Latin. And the guitar and percussion sound is better than ever. I hope to see you live with this line-up in the Netherlands soon. Keep it up! Best regards, Luc Pullens

Dear Steve! I am your fan since 2007 when I bought Your first CD "CROSSINGS." Since then, I collected almost all of your recordings, each of them brought something valuable to my musical experience. I never heard before a guitarist who played with such a sense of space in improvisations, also the colors of your chords are so interesting that I am always going back to your albums with the feeling that I am listening to them for the first time.
Today i received "PARTING SHOT" and since first hearing I know it will be one of my favorites CDs. I am writing also because I am interested in what are the chances to see you in Europe? Do you have some concert plans, for example in Germany? Greetings from Poland!

You were right. It's not anything like "LOCAL COLOR." And it is cool to see that Mr. Mounsey is playing along with your old gang again. This thing will make Latin Jazz listeners sit-up and take notice. And there were cowbells!! Nice Work.

Having finished my morning job for the European Parliament, I opened the windows ajar and put on my headphones at seven in the morning to revisit your album, "CROSSINGS." And I finally heard it. The broad, reverberating echoes of something long gone, revealed to me in my early morning repose. What a fine album! What fine players! What peace! My headphones are the open-type, I heard birds twitter into "Capricorn." Then I headed for the day's other challenges, but the magic lingers on. Thanks for a beautiful, balmy morning, Libor

Steve, if "PARTING SHOT" were just that, you would have blown a crater size hole in the music scene. As it certainly will not be your Parting Shot, the music and playing is a gas, and once again demonstrates that musicians like yourself are "Khanstantly" evolving and pushing their own personal envelope. Thanks for the super cool tones and playing, by everyone. All the best, and great success with "PARTING SHOT."

Steve, Congratulations on "PARTING SHOT." I just picked it up today, and it is so good. I can just feel through the music how enjoyable it must have been for you and Anthony, Manolo, Dennis, and the guys to play. I love what you do with MONK("Bye-ya") on this record, and that great piece that you played on "THE SUITCASE." Anyway, well done....once again!

Steve - Just a short note to say "Thanks!" for another great album...I count it as perhaps your best (though I love the Eyewitness stuff) - there's a palpable sense of joy throughout "PARTING SHOT," it makes me smile....and the recording itself is just so stellar and clear. Dennis always cracks me up, with sheer disbelief, when he solos, and you've captured some of that, and Anthony is sounding great as always. Grab those guys, and come out to the SF Bay area, and play Yoshi's so I can see you do it live, eh? Thanks again!

Hi Steve - Well, it was worth the wait! By that I mean, the new "PARTING SHOT" CD, which arrived on my doormat from Japan last week. (Well, I wasn't going to wait for its UK release date on May 16th!!) A triumphantly listenable album Steve, with a warm Latin sound - and vocals too!! Right up there with the very best of your recordings, and even the inlay artwork looks great. I am one satisfied limey!!

Dear Steve, At 7:38 this morning, while driving to my job, I heard a piece of music that immediately grabbed me by the ears, and made me say "Who is that?!" The head of the tune featured fantastic guitar playing with a tone that was to-die-for. I planned to look it up on WBGO's playlist as soon as I got in. As the solo started, I initially thought "Wow, this guy (like me) obviously loves Steve Khan's playing." Hahaha! Then of course, I realized, "This has to be Steve's new album!" It was as if you were there in person speaking. Your voice on the guitar was so clearly you.
Sure enough, the cut was "Blues Connotation." Congratulations! What a great song, with great playing. It was thrilling to listen to it. I can't wait to get the new CD! Best of luck with it.

Dear Mr. Steve Khan, this is my first time to write to you. I have been a big fan of yours since late '70s. (At that time, I was a high school student, and listened to your works such as "TIGHTROPE" & "THE BLUE MAN" frequently. And of course, in early '80s, Eyewitness was one of my favorites. I just bought your album "PARTING SHOT" today, and listened to it. The album is really great! I like it very much. This is very unique and high quality music, I am truly impressed. I think all musicians on this album are great too, and above all it is really fun to listen to! (As you may know, we just had a huge natural disaster here in Japan, so we really need to have good music which gives us joy and hope...) I also read your interview in a magazine named "Jazz Guitar Book." It was also fun to listen to the album while reading your comments on each tune.
Thank you very much for creating such wonderful music. I hope the album will be commercially successful. (I will recommend it to all music lovers around me to listen to this album!) Best Regards, Kando "Can Do" Matsubara

Steve, I am working through your 2 "KHANCEPTS" books, and I don't know if I am making progress or not, but, when I am trying out a guitar in a music store, I play some of the things I have learned, and sometimes people stop to hear what I am doing and then ask what that is. Thanks for all the effort that goes into these transcriptions, and the extra mile you go to teach us. Putting together a site like this can be a nightmare, so I appreciate ALL the work and resources that went into this. Best success! Jay
