Hi Steve! Today, when I wandered the streets of Berlin, because of my sinking motivations to work on my new book and the bad weather drove me into a record store, where I found your "EYEWITNESS" record. For ages I owned the "CASA LOCO" record, and had been looking for this one. I bought it right away and went home. Your music made my day, and gave me new inspiration. What a timeless, beautiful and fantastic sounding record! Afterwards I came across your website, and was moved by your insightful, sensitive and open notes and stories. Thanks for the experience, keep making music. Yours sincerely, Andree

First of all, your music inspires me. I am a life long guitarist turned business man. Your tone, technique and melodic spirit is truly amazing. I had just been listening to and learning from your beautiful recordings "THE GREEN FIELD" and "BORROWED TIME." I have been trying to find some educational material to finally study like always wanted to do. I see that you have also developed educational material. I am an experienced player, but my improvisational skills are rudimentary when it comes to jazz. Would your materials work for me? Steve, I think it is awesome that you take the time to write to your fans. I hope someday you will play at the Dakota in Minneapolis. It is a great venue. Thank you for your beautiful music. Best wishes!

"EVIDENCE" is my favorite guitar album. I was wondering about the recording process. The sound is so bright and immediate. Was there something special that you did with the miking or your pickups? I've never heard anything like it since.

Did you ever travel to Australia mixing front of house for Santana?

I just discovered Mr. Paul Desmond's "Embarcadero" and, while trying to learn the changes I ran across your marvelous transcription of Jim Hall's solo. Saved me again. You once transcribed "Ballad Of The Sad Young Men" for me, and I still use your work. Much appreciated. Wayne

Hi Steve. I've been a fan of yours for decades. I saw you live with Don Grolnick, Will Lee, Mike Mainieri and Steve Gadd @ Carnegie Hall back in October '78. I bought a copy of "THE BLUE MAN" from Colony Records, and got Mike's autograph. It wasn't yours, but it was better than nothing. I got Earl Klugh's autograph that night too. Happy 15th birthday to me! I read about Gary King, and it broke my heart. I had no idea he was gone. The man was a monster on the bass! My dad is Tony May, and he was chief engineer at Allegro/Generation Studios in the basement of 1650 Broadway back then.
In closing: You're one of the coolest soloists I've ever heard, whether in hard electric overdrive, or laid-back acoustic. Diane Schuur's "Hearts Take Time" just laid me out on the floor with the headphones on, and all I could do was hit repeat over and over. Thanks for all your days and nights in Manhattan, with all the guys here and gone. Keep doing your thing, man.

Hi Steve: I am a 56 year old American guitarist living in Ireland. To be honest, didn't know much about your music, although I have your book of Pat Martino transcriptions and "CHORD KHANCEPTS." Just bought "THE GREEN FIELD," and I'm loving it. Just wanted you to know that you are being heard and appreciated. Thanks for making such great music. Which album should I buy next? Cheers, Rick

Hi Steve. Thanks for the charts, but they are virtually illegible, and uploaded in a format other than pdf making them even more illegible. Also, when I went to rechart "Bock to Bock" in Sibelius, I couldn't even select Db minor as a key signature, because there's no such thing. Why did you chart this in Db minor and not C# minor?

Hi Steve. Love your website! Thanks for years of honest music, and for teaching me that the music lives in the 'rests' as much as it does in the notes. Thanks for the Eyewitness band. Anthony Jackson's playing on those records haunts me to this day! Have a happy birthday!

Hello Steve: First I must say. I'm sorry for your loss. Your friend Phil Ramone was a giant in the industry, and from your Tribute page, he was a dear and personal friend to you as well. I too lost a good friend last year, Jazz bassist Charles Fambrough. He was like a big brother to me. He taught & helped me with the music business in so many ways. Steve, one of the wonderful things about the business that we're in is that, in most cases, we have their music to pass on to future generations. I want to thank you, as a fellow guitarist, for being an inspiration to me and musicians all over the world, just like the people on your Tribute page were for you. I hope one day to share the stage with you and play a few notes together. If you ever come to Philly, look me up. I'll take you to get a good Philly Cheese Steak.

Wonderful website Mr. Khan! One of the best by any musician ever. I recently went through all of the CDs I have of your music, and came up with my own single-CD "BEST OF". I wonder what you think of my choices: 1) "Daily Bulls" 2) "An Eye Over Autumn" 3) "Infant Eyes" 4) "Where's Mumphrey?" 5) "Guy Lafleur"(*****) 6) "Penetration" 7) "Uncle Roy" 8) "Little Sunflower" 9) "What I'm Said" 10) "Los Gaiteros." (I wanted to sneak "Still Life w/ Mockingbird" on as well, but it wouldn't fit) I can't possibly convey how much I have admired your unique sound over the past 30 plus years. The moodiness and subtle rhythms are so captivating...still! I guess I just wanted you to know.

Hi Steve. Short note, long time fan. Love your work, and of your bandmates, not least Anthony Jackson. The "EYEWTINESS" album is my number 1!!! It just exemplifies everything wonderful about you guys, music, and what it can do to the human spirit. Many thanks, kind regards to all.

Congratulations Steve! Saw that the Clare Fischer Latin Jazz Big Band won the Grammy for BEST LATIN JAZZ ALBUM with "¡RITMO!." Your role in the project must have been huge for Brent Fischer to have mentioned you specifically in his speech last night. Wow!!! It's great that the category was reinstated!

Hi Steve! Your music is super. And with your transcription side, I can learn/understand very much. I have a question:
Please can I have your transcription from your "Common Mama" (the Keith Jarrett tune)? from "GOT MY MENTAL" please. This is such a super song - it's absolutely positive!!! Thank you very much, also for your "El Prado Verde" and, and, and... Greetings, and the best!!! Harald

Dear Steve, I am writing this message to thank you for everything you have done for music. Your sound is 100% musical, and is not coming from ego that a lot of so called musicians have. I don't consider them as musicians, because artist is creating not for him/herself but for us idiots to get something, thank you very much for your sound, for your talent, for your improvising bluesy :D I love blues, and am having a hard time now studying jazz, because of the chord changes, but I'll get over it hopefully. But man, when i listen to your music, I don't know, it is something else! I have all of your albums. Come to Georgia Please :D

Steve, I'm curious, maybe years ago I met you at the Bottom Line in Manhattan. Did you accompany Mose Allison there for what I recall was a 2 day gig in the mid-1970s? If so, you were dynamite, and I still remember your solos.

I was at one of your gigs in Rome, I think in 1994 with Anthony Jackson and Dave Weckl, best live show in my whole life. I cannot say thank you enough for the inspiration.

My seven piece band is working on "The Little Ones" - perhaps at a slightly slower tempo than your recording. Wow! Thanks for the lead sheet, Steve. It helped a lot.
