Hi Steve, just listened to your entire interview with Leo Sidran at his "THE THIRD STORY" site. It was absolutely fantastic, thank you for being so open, and for sharing these insights into your life, both personal and musical. Happy New Year 2015!

Hello Steve: When I read the news that "SUBTEXT" had not received a Grammy nomination for BEST LATIN JAZZ ALBUM, I was most disappointed. You have many fans here in Germany, and like me, we follow your work. For us, there can be no doubt that "SUBTEXT" was one of the 5 best recordings in this genre during 2014. The 'jazz' content of some of the nominees to me was minimal at best. It is a shame, but our support for your recordings will remain. Keep up the great work! Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Just heard "Bird Food" on the Latin show on KMHD, and knew it was you of course. Very inspiring, top form. The new sh#t rocks, picking it up mañana! In an ideal world I'd be in NYC rocking the Latin Jazz, but living vicariously ain't bad either. Stuart

Thanks, Steve, for another fantastic album, "SUBTEXT." Whenever you bring out a new record, I know I can click the "Buy" button in iTunes without listening to a single second of the samples. I've really enjoyed the emphasis on Latin feels and sounds on the past couple of albums.
Every time I listen to your music - which is often - I am reminded of how much you have influenced my conception of tone, phrasing, and harmony as far back as the "EYEWITNESS" LP that I bought at Peaches record store in 1982! Thanks again for all the great music! All the best,

Dear Mr. Khan, I feared "PARTING SHOT" was the last we heard from you. Now comes "SUBTEXT" - your greatest to date. I got a copy a few weeks ago, and can't tell how happy I am. This critical listener cordially welcomes what must be your greatest, and easily the best jazz guitar CD of the year. I heard you have a palm-tendon issue. Please don't give up. Your latest CD is musically and sonically a gem. I just love Steve Khan, is all.

Hello Steve, I bought "SUBTEXT" and received it yesterday. What a gorgeous album it is, I can tell that your love for Latin music has grown even more. I'm a great fan of this music too, and I think there is a great balance between your love for Jazz harmonies and improvisation, and the true rhythms of this music. It truly is a one of a kind approach. I really can't think of anyone else who has pursued this path so far, and with so much artistic cleverness, and heart. Bravo!! I was thinking that you should do a record in the same vein with the great Cuban or Puerto Rican vocalists mixed with Jazz. This would be awesome.
All the best my friend, and kudos for this wonderful CD!!

Hello Steve, I'm just discovering your website, and I would like to thank you for all the precious information that we can find there. All the work you did on the transcriptions and analyses is fantastic! THANK YOU for sharing.
When I was 17, like lot of drummers, I was a Dave Weckl fan, and I discovered "PUBLIC ACCESS" for that reason. But the music on this record went beyond the drum licks that I was looking for at this time, and I started to buy the other albums, like "CASA LOCO"! But, "PUBLIC ACCESS" gave me the strength to wake-up every day to go to school. With my teenage garage band, we were all fans! Nice to see that your new album, "SUBTEXT" is on sale, I will quickly buy it!
I just wanted to express my gratitude for your music and work which has given and continues to give me a lot of pleasure and inspiration. Hope to see you soon in Paris. Cheers!

Just received your last CD, "SUBTEXT." I am amazed how your style is continuously changing, wonderful album, great melodic invention, and if i could say it this way - such freshness! I am sure it's a matter of time before you will travel with the band, and we are waiting for your trip to Europe! I wish you all the best at your artistic way.

Dear Steve, Firstly, I listen to your album "PUBLIC ACCESS" very often, and I'm currently enjoying your recent album "SUBTEXT" very much, especially "Infant Eyes" and "Cada Gota de Mar." The album is lovely. It would be great if you could gig in Ireland. I'm totally confident you would get a fantastic reception. Many thanks,

Hi Steve, "Subtexto en Azul" is getting very heavy play in my car these days. it's a great project, and among some of your finest work, in my humble opinion. I know Marc and Bobby probably have as much studio work as they can handle, but do you have any plans of touring in support of the CD? Saludos,

Dear Mr Khan, before delivery of your latest CD, "SUBTEXT," I must say, I greatly appreciate your longstanding devotion to Latin music. Your many CDs give me lots of joy and "fulfillment" in these rough times. I ordered "SUBTEXT" without ever pre-listening to it, because I love what you do. And I cannot wait to hear your God sent guitar in a new context. You said you like flipping sides on LPs. I wish I had a decent phonograph to do that, I'd enjoy your older records some more. Keep up the good work!

Dear Steve, I've been following you since the Eyewitness days, and am certainly looking to pick-up the new album. I'm a surgeon who plays a bit of bass, so the Anthony Jackson links obviously also appealed (loved "PARTING SHOT") - looking forward to hearing from you soon. Keep playing, and we'll keep listening.

Hi Steve: This is a thank you note. In 1979, in a small flat in Birmingham's Moseley Village (UK), a late night radio station featured tracks from "ARROWS." It touched a chord with me, and I bought it the next day. I played it obsessively, as I often do when I hear something that just 'works' for me: a bit like the album "AJA" when I first heard it. Now I don't know anything about music other than that I love it. This gives me great freedom compared to thinking about art or photography, which I do know something about. It gives me the freedom to like what I like for no good reason. And I won't and don't have to defend my opinions!
Anyway, I'm 57 now, and was playing "MODERN TIMES" (BLADES) to my grown-up kids the other day on a long car journey - we consider journeys to be quality family listening time - and it occurred to me that, with a lifetime of listening, I ought to write to you. My favorite albums remain the aforementioned two, but I like everything you do. Thanks Steve, you've given me so much pleasure. It could only be bettered by seeing you play live, but I doubt that's going to happen. Big regards,

Dave Allen

Hi Steve! A while back I contacted you about the live album "MODERN TIMES" which I knew only as "BLADES." You explained to me that it was not yet available on iTunes. I told you that I'd be happy to wait for it, and I did. I bought it from iTunes about a month ago, and I was happy and relieved that the CD stands up to my memories of it. My son is now playing drums, and I put it on his iPod. He can't stop talking about it. Eyewitness has always been one of my favorite "fusion" groups. (I hate that word, unless you're talking about Los Lobos.)
Thanks for your access, kindness, and generosity. Thanks for giving Anthony Jackson such a perfect venue to display his "sinister" bass playing. I love that band and that CD in particular. So, once again, thank you. You inspire me, and now, all these years later, my son.

Steve - just downloaded "EVIDENCE." Had never gotten to hear it before. Wow, just amazing. Can't wait to dig deeply into it. Now I just have to figure out which Eyewitness records I don't have on CD, and download them, too. (I'm pretty sure "CASA LOCO" is the only one I could never find on CD). Don't know if you had a hand in making this music available again, but thanks much if you did! All the best,

Hi Steve! From time to time, I take a look at your website, and for a long time nothing has been updated! So, I hope that everything is OK for you and that you are playing your guitar! I always remember the last time I went to hear you at the New Morning in Paris! Maybe one day you will come back here? Have a nice day! Cheers from Paris, Gilles

I have listened to Steely Dan's "Glamour Profession" at least a couple times a week since its release, as I am captivated by the guitar solo. I finally found that it was you. I discovered this pearl of knowledge on someone's personal list of the "20 Best Guitar Solos of All-Time." He ranked it #2. His taste is good, but flawed, as it should be #1.
Mastery of the instrument is one thing, but that level of instant composition is truly a mind blower. thank you! TC

Hi Steve, Hope all is well with you in 2014! Just wanted to write you real quick, and let you know how much I love your music. I've been listening to your creations for about 8 or so years now, and I have almost all your albums and CDs.
It would be the most awesome thing to see you live anywhere in the world….do you have any plans on a tour or live recording album in the future? If so, with enough notice, I'll find a way to be there.
I've been fishing a lot lately and there is nothing more relaxing than cruising around on the water listening to your work. The other day just as the sun was going down, I was playing my favorite song "El Prado Verde" and hooked a beautiful Striped Bass about halfway into the song. By the time I got him to the boat, took off the hook, snapped a quick picture, and released him back into the lake, the song was just starting to fade out and the sun was setting. It was the most memorable experience. Very cool!
Take care Steve, I'm always looking forward to any new albums you have on the way.

I have been a fan of yours since 1974. I am also deeply touched by the art works of Folon. Hence, the connection I experience through your music is beyond special. It has been a rare privilege to witness your evolution over the years. My only regret is that I haven't, as of yet, seen you live in concert. When will you be performing near Atlanta, GA? I want to be there!

Hi Steve, we talked before, you put me in contact with your friend in Melbourne to get a copy of "PUBLIC ACCESS." I was checking in your web site for tours or shows, but didn't find anything! Any plans for coming to Oz or Nz in the near future? Would love to see your band live. Thanks very much for your music, it inspires me a lot. Wishing you the best for 2014. Cheers, Carlos

Hi Steve! I am trying to capture your old overdrive guitar sound with my gear, the sound from your Columbia recordings, and studio gigs from the same era. I love it! (and the albums too). I know you were mostly playing a Telecaster back then. Sounds to me like a Fender amp with a lot of bass, and the bright switch on. I've tried that, using an old MXR distortion+, and I also seem to get a little closer to it playing with a harder attack, closer to the neck. Is there something else you can share about that great sound?
Man, these are great albums! I introduced them to my guitar playing teenage son the other day, and now he's all over KHAN'S KORNER. Thanks, Uffe
