Steve, I was so happy to read at your NEWS page that BGO Records was going to be releasing the 3 original Eyewitness albums on CD during March of 2016. I never had the chance to own "MODERN TIMES" on CD, and this will be my moment! Thank you so much for letting us know about this great coming event. Oh, and the Folon cover looks beautiful too!!! Thank you for sharing, so passionately, the story behind the making of "The Christmas Waltz." This has long been one of my favorite arrangements. Reading your post gave this beautiful track an even deeper meaning for me. I look forward to studying the score you so kindly provided. With Warmest Wishes for 2016!

Hey Steve, it's Billy in Atlanta. I have your last few CDs in my CD changer. It's getting chilly here, and I've been driving and listening to your music about 1-1/2 hours every day, Still LOVE it like it's the first time hearing it. Fantastic music! Thank you so much, can't wait to here your next CD.

Hey Steve, Hope you are doing well. I wasn't sure if you knew that Wounded Bird Records is reissuing on CD a couple of recordings of yours. They are "ALIVEMUTHERFORYA" and "TWO FOR THE ROAD" (with Larry Coryell). I've never heard "TWO FOR THE ROAD" and was wondering what your thoughts are on this collaboration. Thank you, and I wish you the best! Sincerely, Dave Z.

Hi Steve, I've been playing guitar in a trio with bass and drums over the last year, and your CDs and instruction books (particularly "CHORD KHANCEPTS") have been a real inspiration for how to make it work. Your website is also a great resource for my ongoing and never-ending learning. So, many thanks for that. I want to add a ballad to our band's repertoire, and I was thinking that your arrangement of "You're My Girl" from "BORROWED TIME" would be an excellent choice. Many thanks again for all the help you have already provided. Best,
Mike Joyce

Hi Steve, I recently visited your website, and I am blown away by what you have put together. Your Wes Montgomery transcription book was a big part of my early jazz guitar exploration, and I just wanted to say "Thank You!" for sharing all of this information. It is an amazing resource that stands out as something truly special. Thanks again, Chris

Dear Steve, I wanted to thank you for posting the "Poor Butterfly" Jim Hall solo transcription. I've made that entire Paul Desmond album a subject of study, and the ability to refer to the transcription has been really helpful. In music & mirth, Richie

So sad to hear that Mary Ann's had to close! You must be especially bummed!!! No more taquitos for you, reminders of your childhood days in West Los Angeles!!! At one time, there were 3 Mary Ann's restaurants in Manhattan. Now, there are none - all gone!!! It's a sad, sad day!!! Vaya!!!

Hi Steve, I just had to tell you that I heard your wonderful interview with Rhonda Hamilton on WBGO-FM this past Thursday. I found it to be very entertaining, moving, and, uplifting to hear you speaking about your father, Sammy Cahn, on what would have been his 102nd birthday. The songs, as performed by great Jazz artists, that you chose were perfect. I found myself wishing that the 2 hours would never have ended. Thanks to you, Rhonda, and everyone at WBGO for giving us such great radio.

Dear Steve - Hello! It's been a long time. In the late '70s, I was a UCLA student, and had the good fortune of seeing you with Tom Scott at the Roxy - you kindly took time before your set to talk with me. We became pen pals, and you kindly responded to each of my letters. Here we are in 2015, and I just reconnected with your most recent music through Pandora - sensational! I immediately bought your latest CD, and the digital remasters of: "TIGHTROPE"; "THE BLUE MAN" and "ARROWS." A couple weeks ago my wife and I were on 8th St. and passed by Electric Lady Studios - a thought of you crossed my mind and your wonderful sound. Thank you for your passion and your wonderful creations. All the best, Chuck

Steve, as a student just coming out of school, I was intrigued about your "CHORD KHANCEPTS" book, and purchased a copy at the suggestion of my current guitar teacher. I found it was an excellent book, and exactly what I needed as both a tool to using a guitar in a contemporary manner, and as an insightful way of seeing your concepts at work in your very own recordings!
Which is why I felt the need to message you, and let you know that "THE GREEN FIELD," "PARTING SHOT," and your latest, "SUBTEXT" are TIMELESS records that always give me something new after listening to one or the other. I feel that you carefully work out the way each album flows, and how the tunes are sequenced, and none of that is lost to a fan of music such as myself. I know as a listener of music, and not even as a jazz head, that these records are great, because people, in general, will ask me about them. For a long time, I didn't have much in the way of recordings by guitarists, but I just want to thank you for making these records, and for putting so much work into them, the sheer energy and emotional content is real, and these albums each have a SOUL. Thank you!

Hi Steve. This is my first time contacting you. Just wanted to tell you how much I'm enjoying listening to your first 3 albums again on the recent BGO Records reissue of them. I love those 3 albums so much. In my opinion, you don't have to concern yourself with wondering if those records have held up after so many years. Because they still do! Of course, I'm completely biased since a lot of the people on those records are some of my musical heroes. I've always loved the "New York Sound" of the late '70s, and still listen to music from that period all the time. You, and so many of your fellow musicians and friends (The Breckers, Will Lee, Steve Gadd), were such a huge part of it. I've also thoroughly enjoyed your more recent albums "PARTING SHOT" and "SUBTEXT." Such great music! Thanks so much for all the wonderful music, Steve!

Mr. Khan, I bought 2 of your books this week, "PENTATONIC" and "CHORD KHANCEPTS," and it mentioned to write you, and I immediately wanted to tell you, these books are AMAZING. I got a similar feeling when I found an old copy of Scott Henderson's late '80s Hot Licks video - blew me away. I've picked up "EYEWITNES"; "HEADLINE"; "PUBLIC ACCESS"; and "CASA LOCO" the past two weeks. WOW! WOW!! WOW!!! Also, I loved the STEVE RECOMMENDS page on this site that lists albums that you favor. Thanks for your talent and willingness to share it with others! - Mike

Hey Steve, Just sitting here listening to, and digging the Brecker Brothers CD from the Bottom Line. You guys sounded so great, and I can only imagine all the great music you guys have made that only the audiences heard. Do you have any upcoming gigs in NYC? I would love to hear you play live. Thanks, Jim

Steve, thank you for posting so many wonderful transcriptions. To me, the analyses are indispensable. These are great lessons in areas that I particularly need to focus: harmonic theory, improv strategy, modal vs. scalar approaches. Just expressing appreciation for the help. In some ways, better than a live lesson, because I can review the material endlessly. Respectfully, Chris Carden

Woke-up this morning (no, wait, come back! this isn't a blues song) with "Sisé" going through my head. Dug out my old CD of "PUBLIC ACCESS" and gave it a spin. Haven't listened to it for ages, so a real treat to get reacquainted on a sunny Sunday morning. Wondering if there was any transcription of "Sisé" on the net, I typed in Steve's name and - knock me down with a feather - the man himself has put the lead sheet, chord voicings, lyrics and song history here for, er, public access. Huzzah! Thanks, Steve, and greetings from the other side of the pond.

I saw you every time you played in Manhattan from 1987-1992, and you have remained one of my all-time favorite guitar players. I have all of your CDs, and listen to them often. You've really developed your trio "voice" with last 4-5 CDs, and I love it! I would travel many miles to see you again. I hope all is well with you. Best wishes! Eric
