Tallahassee, FL USA - Monday, December 26, 2022 at 20:02:54 (EST)
Good morning, Steve, from Madrid. I hope I don't bother too much. A few years ago I met "Don't Worry Baby" (No te preocupes nena) with the voice of Gabriela Anders, which I can't find now. Can you help me, please? Cheers and peace. Thank you.

Hello Mr. Khan, Thank you for your work on the transcription of Michael Brecker solos. I have often visited your pages and learned a lot from you. One of my all time favorite albums with MB is your album, "THE BLUE MAN." Specifically, "An Eye Over Autumn." I always listen this album 1 or 2 times a month since many many years. Thank you also for that! Marry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Greetings from Switzerland - Roland

Steve: I just wanted to thank you very much for your piece on Paul Desmond's "Samba with Some Barbeque." The preparatory language that you wrote about how Creed Taylor's work with A&M and CTI didn't get the respect it deserved is something that has bothered me for many, many years. I own all of these records and love them. In some ways, I think it was a golden era for jazz music and a renaissance. I'm glad that you put all of that on your website and put it so well. Thanks.

Dear, Steve, Just finished listening to Steely Dan's "GAUCHO." Your contribution to this album is so wonderful. "Glamour Profession" is unbelievable. Also have some of your work on Spotify. Sitting and collecting memories from my own career. Will retire from the Oslo Philharmonic by April 1st, '23. Strange feeling, but feels right. Feels like leaving my youth with drum set (jazz, rock etc.) and my timps with greats like Mahler, Stravinsky, Beethoven etc. Anyway, wishing you all the best for Christmas, and that you're in good health. All the best, Tom Vissgren, Principal Timpanist, Oslo Philharmonic

Hello M. Khan, I have been wanting to write to you for a long time, and at last, now's the time. First, I want to sincerely thank you for your generosity, your musical creativity, your dedication and for being an inspiration as a human being and musician.
A litte chronology: I remember learning and playing your transcription of Wes Montgomery's "Sundown" from a "GUITAR PLAYER" Magazine from the 1970s. My curiosity led me to getting your vinyls as a leader. Those records and the subsequent ones have been an important source of inspiration for me. On my first trip to NYC (around 1981-82 I think), I went to listen to you and the original Eyewitness band perform at the 7th Avenue South. Hearing the piece "Guy Lafleur" (I am from Montréal) Incredible impact!
A few years later, I phoned you and we booked a meeting. I met you at your apartment in NYC. I remember vividly our encounter: After a nice glass of orange juice we played a bit and exchanged ideas about music and music business. I was totally surprised (and so happy!) when you gave me copies of all the musical scores of Eyewitness, play-alongs for different improvising applications.
Looking back, I can say that your musical creativity and recorded output have been very important in keeping me focused on my goal of making a living in the music field. There is another aspect about my encounter with you that goes beyond music that struck me heavily: Your incredible generosity; no need to elaborate, it is just something rather rare in general and even rarer in the music field (from my experience). Very, very special.
Again, a huge Thanks for all of this. I simply wish the best for you and your loved ones. Peace, François

Dear Mr. Khan, I've been into the world of Jazz-Fusion for a while now (3 years, which for a 17 year old like myself, coming from a R&B/Funk background) is a long time. I've encountered many different artists, and you happen to be one of the more under-the-radar artists. No offense. I often enjoy those who are overlooked, it makes me feel like I've stumbled upon buried treasure in a sense. I was wondering if you could help me in my search for more musicians who I wouldn't hear if i asked the greater public, perhaps people who you've worked with or drew some inspiration from? Many thanks, Dennis Rogers

Hey Steve, Thanks for transcribing Chick Corea's solo on "Creek." You mentioned "SOUL BURST" by Cal Tjader. This was a record that I heard growing up. Had it on vinyl, now on CD. Wasn't aware of McCoy Tyner at that time. Hope you are well, and thanks for your excellent music! - George

Hey Steve, I was watching earlier seasons of "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE" and saw you wearing an Orioles jersey, makes me even more of a fan of yours, I'm from Baltimore and just wanted to say hello to you. I hope that you are doing great.

Hi Steve, hope you are well, I've been listening to you forever, love your music! Just discovered "YOU ARE HERE" with Rob Mounsey, incredible session, beautiful music. Look forward to hearing more from you. Take care.

Steve. Huge fan of your work. Especially the "GAUCHO" stuff. Just a note of thanks. I am a self-taught hack who'd been playing for 30 yrs., took the downtime of the pandemic to get into theory and fusion music. I learned of your approach to Dorian and chordal voicings from my teacher Harry Jacobson. In the time since, my playing has gotten more melodic. I love the analysis of the transcriptions on the site here. If only fingers moved as fast as my brain did the math. Thanks again. - Bruce
Plymouth Meeting, PA USA - Thursday, September 08, 2022 at 14:39:33 (EDT)
Hi Steve, I finished reading your beautiful tribute to your friend and colleague pianist Warren Bernhardt. His passing this past Saturday has affected so many. Like you, I loved two of his solo piano albums so much, "FLOATING" and "SOLO PIANO." Thank you for sharing your feelings and memories of Warren with everyone!

Hey Steve, Just wanted to say that I'm a huge fan, and your approach to music & guitar playing has had a huge impact on me. I love all your recent Afro-Cuban records, as well as your old school stuff. That solo on Steely Dan's "My Rival" is still so hip! Speaking of Steely Dan, I also wanted to say thanks, because without the chord changes you put up online, I could have never have pulled off my "Glamour Profession" cover, on which I tried to apply some your "Pentatonic Khancepts" on the guitar solo. Thank you so much for the positivity and great music. All the best, - M

Got to listen to "Island Letter" this morning - between mowing the lawn and battery changes! What a pleasant surprise, and perfect Sunday Morning Fare t' boot!
I have been a fan for many, many years, and always love what Steve puts together - ensembles, as well as musical ideas. The acoustic sounds great - woody as hell! The arrangement, vocals, perc., bass and of course, Rob's keyboard work all contribute to the vibe.
I cannot think of a single recording that has ever let me down in any way. Kudos to everyone on this project Steve!
New York, NY USA - Sunday, May 29, 2022 at 15:59:51 (EDT)
I've got a little bit of jet lag, so I'm up early - in my office writing emails, and I hear something familiar in the background in the living room on the radio, our WBGO. It's your record with Mark Kibble!! It sounds absolutely beautiful. Congratulations my friend on another gorgeous piece of music.

"Island Letter" Versión mágica!
Louisville, CO USA - Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 17:29:55 (EDT)
Hi Steve: Wanted to extend a big congratulations to you on "Island Letter." Fantastic arrangement and recording of a wonderful song. Always happy to hear your acoustic guitar playing too. I loved the video, and just purchased a CD through Blue Canoe Records; people need to support and show love to truly great artists, which of course you and Mark Kibble are the pinnacle. Sending this from my hotel room in Liverpool, UK. Playing a few gigs here. All Best, Max

Steve! Wow! I love the new "Island Letter" single with Mark Kibble and your band of merry men, Rob, Marc and Rubén! I am finally able to go back to Australia in a few weeks. I can't wait to see my children again. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you chaps, that's if there are any plans to record some more music??? Best wishes and thank you once again for beautiful playing and an incredible version of a wonderful tune. Phil

Steve, I just wanted to write to say, "Hello." I am a big fan of your music - I have most of your recordings, as well your Pat Martino book. I wrote you back around 1991 or so to ask about your books, and you were kind enough to write back. I saw you perform at the Jazz Estate in Milwaukee (probably around 1992), and I hope to catch you again live somewhere if things settle down enough in the world. I enjoy your website and visit it every so often to check your NEWS page, and see if there are any recent additions to STEVE'S FAVORITES! Some really interesting, fun, and funny stuff there. I hope you and your family are doing well. All the best to you, Jason Wessel
Milwaukee, WI USA - Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 13:40:15 (EDT)
Steve, just wondering if you were open tuning your strings at the end of Billy Joel's "Big Shot"? Every time I tune my guitar, I always hear that, and I'm reminded of that. Also, I love your playing on "NOUVEAU CHAPEAU" with Free Beer, especially songs like "One Eyed Jackass" and "Goin' Away." - Dave
Oak Park, MI USA - Monday, April 18, 2022 at 12:58:22 (EDT)
Hi Steve: I wanted to thank you for publishing "CHORD KHANCEPTS." I have always been curious as to the incredible vocabulary you have in this area. It's awesome! I have also found a few performances on YouTube. Cool to see you play live . I hope you are well.
Naples, FL USA - Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 08:27:18 (EDT)
Hello Steve, I came to discover your music by way of Anthony Jackson and Dave Weckl way back in the '90s. I moved to the NYC area in 2019, just as Anthony announced his retirement. I met Anthony at Sony Hall @ Hiromi's solo performance, and feel fortunate to have seen him perform live once in 2017. I frequent the 55 Bar and other NYC venues, but wish I had seen you play! I've been rediscovering your catalog. Brilliant!! Are you still touring and will you play in NYC anytime soon? Thanks for the inspiration!
Jericho, NY USA - Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 01:21:43 (EDT)
Hi Steve, I have loved your music (particularly the Eyewitness records) since I started playing guitar as a young boy growing-up in Chicago. I live in Manhattan now. I hope this note finds you well, especially in such strange times. Thank you for all the beautiful music! All the best to you, Jonny
New York, NY USA - Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 20:05:56 (EDT)
You are truly a Zen master of guitar, and easily one of the greatest jazz guitarists ever! Your music does not have all of the unnerving melodies and rhythms heard in much of recorded jazz, and your music instills a 'calmness' that allows the listener to truly enjoy your incredible skills as a guitarist. I would love to learn how to play your incredible jazz chord voicings as used in "Let's Call This," "All Or Nothing At All" and especially "Descarga Khanalonious." You are amazing my friend, and I look forward to learning more from you! Using Logic Pro X I am trying to record backing tracks using your method of voicings, and then improvise on guitar and tenor sax.
Grand Junction, CO USA - Monday, February 07, 2022 at 12:55:44 (EST)
Hi Steve - I feel as though I owe you an apology of sorts. Ever since 1981, I thought the guitar solo on Donald Fagen's "True Companion" was Larry Carlton. 41 years later, I find out that it was you. So, my apologies for not doing my due diligence and mis-crediting "True Companion," even if it was just in my head. It's a beautiful part, and one you should be proud of. Soulful, with a beautiful tone, and the way you complement each chord with the perfect note(s). Thank you for such a gorgeous piece of music.
Melbourne, FL USA - Friday, February 04, 2022 at 19:52:40 (EST)
Hello Steve, I've been a big fan of your playing and music for many years. I think you represent much of what I love about what the guitar can do in jazz or pop music. I've come to a bit of a crossroads in my own playing and music as far as where to go. Though I grew up on rock, I love jazz as well. I've spent years learning quite a few jazz standards. Transcribing bits of solos, chord voicings, etc. I'm torn about how to proceed as a musician, how to blend these two musical streams together (jazz and pop/rock). I'd love to hear your take if you can find the time!
Grand Rapids, MI USA - Thursday, February 03, 2022 at 02:40:05 (EST)
Hi Steve, been a fan since your first album. Still listen to all your recordings and can't get enough of your Anthony Jackson period. Thanks for all you do/did. Big fan, Grant

Watched your YouTube with Dr. Dave from the NYU Steinhardt Jazz Studies from 2019! You shared some deep things Steve for musicians and people just living their life! Thank you for some album titles for me to check out! Thank you for being a pretty Cool and Kind Cat! May this find you in good health! - Adam

Mr. Khan, My name is Dylan, and I was born in 2002. I am currently 19 years of age, and attending university wherein I study history. And, I am writing to you, just briefly, to say how thoroughly I enjoy your own solo records and works. In terms of my music taste, it has been transformed rather brilliantly by the likes of you and your guitars. It has been a phenomenal awakening in the last few years, and the music you compose is something to behold.
If it is of interest to you, my favourite album of yours is "EYEWITNESS," shortly followed by "THE BLUE MAN," the latter containing my all-time favourite piece, Randy Brecker's "The Little Ones." You are the creator of the music that has and will define my young-adult life, and I am proud to say so, for it has served me well. So thank you, Mr. Khan, for the music that has kept my life jovial. I hope to be an author one day, and I can only dream to put as much emotion and such atmosphere into my own works of fiction.
As a writer knows best, it is easier to convey reality in experience than through words, yet I hope I have conveyed my message well. Thank you for your work Mr. Khan; it has truly been my pleasure. With wishes of good health and best regards,
