Hello Mr. Khan, Thank you for your work on the transcription of Michael Brecker solos. I have often visited your pages and learned a lot from you. One of my all time favorite albums with MB is your album, "THE BLUE MAN." Specifically, "An Eye Over Autumn." I always listen this album 1 or 2 times a month since many many years. Steve: I just wanted to thank you very much for your piece on Paul Desmond's "Samba with Some Barbeque." The preparatory language that you wrote about how Creed Taylor's work with A&M and CTI didn't get the respect it deserved is something that has bothered me for many, many years. I own all of these records and love them. In some ways, I think it was a golden era for jazz music and a renaissance. I'm glad that you put all of that on your website and put it so well. Thanks.

Dear, Steve, Just finished listening to Steely Dan's "GAUCHO." Your contribution to this album is so wonderful. "Glamour Profession" is unbelievable. Also have some of your work on Spotify. Sitting and collecting memories from my own career. Will retire from the Oslo Philharmonic by April 1st, '23. Strange feeling, but feels right. Feels like leaving my youth with drum set (jazz, rock etc.) and my timps with greats like Mahler, Stravinsky, Beethoven etc. Anyway, wishing you all the best for Christmas, and that you're in good health. Hello M. Khan, I have been wanting to write to you for a long time, and at last, now's the time. First, I want to sincerely thank you for your generosity, your musical creativity, your dedication and for being an inspiration as a human being and musician.
A litte chronology: I remember learning and playing your transcription of Wes Montgomery's "Sundown" from a "GUITAR PLAYER" Magazine from the 1970s. My curiosity led me to getting your vinyls as a leader. Those records and the subsequent ones have been an important source of inspiration for me. On my first trip to NYC (around 1981-82 I think), I went to listen to you and the original Eyewitness band perform at the 7th Avenue South. Hearing the piece "Guy Lafleur" (I am from Montréal) Incredible impact!
A few years later, I phoned you and we booked a meeting. I met you at your apartment in NYC. I remember vividly our encounter: After a nice glass of orange juice we played a bit and exchanged ideas about music and music business. I was totally surprised (and so happy!) when you gave me copies of all the musical scores of Eyewitness, play-alongs for different improvising applications.
Looking back, I can say that your musical creativity and recorded output have been very important in keeping me focused on my goal of making a living in the music field. There is another aspect about my encounter with you that goes beyond music that struck me heavily: Your incredible generosity; no need to elaborate, it is just something rather rare in general and even rarer in the music field (from my experience). Very, very special.

Dear Mr. Khan, I've been into the world of Jazz-Fusion for a while now (3 years, which for a 17 year old like myself, coming from a R&B/Funk background) is a long time. I've encountered many different artists, and you happen to be one of the more under-the-radar artists. No offense. I often enjoy those who are overlooked, it makes me feel like I've stumbled upon buried treasure in a sense. I was wondering if you could help me in my search for more musicians who I wouldn't hear if i asked the greater public, perhaps people who you've worked with or drew some inspiration from? Steve. Huge fan of your work. Especially the "GAUCHO" stuff. Just a note of thanks. I am a self-taught hack who'd been playing for 30 yrs., took the downtime of the pandemic to get into theory and fusion music. I learned of your approach to Dorian and chordal voicings from my teacher Harry Jacobson. In the time since, my playing has gotten more melodic. Got to listen to "Island Letter" this morning - between mowing the lawn and battery changes! What a pleasant surprise, and perfect Sunday Morning Fare t' boot!
I have been a fan for many, many years, and always love what Steve puts together - ensembles, as well as musical ideas. The acoustic sounds great - woody as hell! The arrangement, vocals, perc., bass and of course, Rob's keyboard work all contribute to the vibe.
I cannot think of a single recording that has ever let me down in any way. Kudos to everyone on this project Steve!

Hello Steve, I came to discover your music by way of Anthony Jackson and Dave Weckl way back in the '90s. I moved to the NYC area in 2019, just as Anthony announced his retirement. I met Anthony at Sony Hall @ Hiromi's solo performance, and feel fortunate to have seen him perform live once in 2017. I frequent the 55 Bar and other NYC venues, but wish I had seen you play! I've been rediscovering your catalog. Brilliant!! Are you still touring and will you play in NYC anytime soon? Thanks for the inspiration!

You are truly a Zen master of guitar, and easily one of the greatest jazz guitarists ever! Your music does not have all of the unnerving melodies and rhythms heard in much of recorded jazz, and your music instills a 'calmness' that allows the listener to truly enjoy your incredible skills as a guitarist. I would love to learn how to play your incredible jazz chord voicings as used in "Let's Call This," "All Or Nothing At All" and especially "Descarga Khanalonious." You are amazing my friend, and I look forward to learning more from you! Using Logic Pro X I am trying to record backing tracks using your method of voicings, and then improvise on guitar and tenor sax.

Hi Steve - I feel as though I owe you an apology of sorts. Ever since 1981, I thought the guitar solo on Donald Fagen's "True Companion" was Larry Carlton. 41 years later, I find out that it was you. So, my apologies for not doing my due diligence and mis-crediting "True Companion," even if it was just in my head. It's a beautiful part, and one you should be proud of. Soulful, with a beautiful tone, and the way you complement each chord with the perfect note(s). Thank you for such a gorgeous piece of music.

Hello Steve, I've been a big fan of your playing and music for many years. I think you represent much of what I love about what the guitar can do in jazz or pop music. I've come to a bit of a crossroads in my own playing and music as far as where to go. Though I grew up on rock, I love jazz as well. I've spent years learning quite a few jazz standards. Transcribing bits of solos, chord voicings, etc. I'm torn about how to proceed as a musician, how to blend these two musical streams together (jazz and pop/rock). I'd love to hear your take if you can find the time!

Mr. Khan, My name is Dylan, and I was born in 2002. I am currently 19 years of age, and attending university wherein I study history. And, I am writing to you, just briefly, to say how thoroughly I enjoy your own solo records and works. In terms of my music taste, it has been transformed rather brilliantly by the likes of you and your guitars. It has been a phenomenal awakening in the last few years, and the music you compose is something to behold.
If it is of interest to you, my favourite album of yours is "EYEWITNESS," shortly followed by "THE BLUE MAN," the latter containing my all-time favourite piece, Randy Brecker's "The Little Ones." You are the creator of the music that has and will define my young-adult life, and I am proud to say so, for it has served me well. So thank you, Mr. Khan, for the music that has kept my life jovial.
